Day 4: A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol (2009) is an animated retelling of Charles Dickens' classic novel about a victorian-era miser taken on a journey of self-redemption courtesy of several mysterious Christmas apparitions.

This is obviously a good film I mean it's Disney first of all, which I didn't realise and it's got a pretty famous cast with Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman and Colin Firth being part of the line-up.

At first I didn't think I'd seen it before, but I've got to the part with the singing child in the school and now I remember seeing it at some point. I really should watch it more often though because it is a lovely film.

I'm kind of glad it wasn't out when I was really little though, some of it's a bit creepy, I think it would have freaked me out.

Overall I give A Christmas Carol:

P.S. The reason the blog is a little shorter today is because I also filmed and uploaded a cheeky vlog today!

Day 3: March of the Penguins

There was a time over the Summer break where for some reason Jordan and I were obsessed with documentaries. Anything done by David Attenborough that was on Netflix, we watched. So it feels a little weird watching an animal documentary... or any sort of documentary without him, maybe I should have left this one for the end of December when I'll be back home.

Oh well! I'm actually in the middle of watching it right now, and this I knew I'd love.

I've always liked documentaries, especially ones about animals. The first animal documentary I can remember watching was about Elephants, red Elephants in a nature reserve. It was a series and it was incredibly interesting, I can't remember what it was called now though.

I just like knowing things, and the habits of animals is really interesting to me and always grabs my attention. But a documentary has to have a good voice over or I completely lose interest.

BUT if it's David Attenborough talking there is a very high chance that I will fall asleep, not at all because I'm bored, just because for some reason his voice just makes me really sleepy. Jordan and I usually couldn't watch more than a couple episodes of him at a time without me nodding off.

Documentaries. I reccomend them. Especially Frozen Planet and Planet Earth.

And March of the Penguins obviously, because penguins are pretty top!

Day 2: Home Alone

5pm

The 2nd of December has been a travel day, due to having class tomorrow I was forced to leave my home town once again and come back to university.

So I think it's kind of appropriate that I'm watching a movie today that kinda involves travel.

The movie is playing as I type this and while I watch I'm going to do some assignment work and drink a beautiful cup of coffee.

7:30pm

So coffee is being had (not the best time to be drinking coffee I know), advent calendar chocolate has been had and the movie is nearly finished.

But why has the movie taken so long Aimee?
...
I got distracted by my flatmates, we started talking in the corridor and that always has 5 minutes turning into 5 hours!

Anyway, the movie. I was pleasantly surprised by this film. Why I didn't expect to enjoy it I don't know, but the important thing is I did enjoy it. It was adorable, but I probably don't have to tell you this because most people have already seen this film.

As I'm back in my flat at university now, I didn't have Jordan as my movie buddy today. Instead I had CHOCOLATE! Which is nowhere near as good but it's a good second choice!

Overall I give Home Alone:

Day 1: Happy Feet!

So it's finally December 1st and we finally have an excuse to start watching Christmas films and listening to Christmas music! Because I totally haven't been listening to Christmas music for like a month already....

I don't know about you but I'm incredibly excited for Christmas this year and I already have quite a few presents sorted! (I'm trying to at least look like a mature adult who knows what they're doing now that I've moved to university)

Speaking of university, I'm not actually there while writing this post! I decided to come home for the weekend and I ended up staying for a few extra days. This means that I was able to complete my first day of Holiday Movie-Mas with my favourite human being ever... JORDAN! Who is now led by the side of me as I type.

Anyway, back to Happy Feet. I put this as the first film I wanted to watch for this challenge because I was just so excited to watch it. I know I've watched it once before but I honestly couldn't remember a thing about it.

So after a lengthy RoosterTeeth and Hell's Kitchen marathon, Jordan and I snuggled up on the bed and started watching Happy Feet.

And it was not what I expected at all. I don't know why but I didn't expected singing penguins... Dancing, yes. Talking, yes. Singing... no. So that freaked me out a little. Also, the film felt so long that with half an hour left to go I thought of giving up on it.

But I am glad I didn't because the point of this challenge for me is not only to see if I can stick with this for 25 days, but also to watch more winter and Christmas films because I'm not a huge film buff and I feel like there's a lot of good films out there that I have yet to uncover. This is like a stepping stone to get me to watch more films.

Anyway, to get back on track, I did very much enjoy the ending of the film and in it's own way I thought it sent out a very good message about the environment and looking after the world we live in.

In no way does this mean I'm now turning into a hardcore, goes to protests and annoys you on Facebook environmentally friendly type. But it did give me something to think about.

Overall I give Happy Feet:

Studio Task - October 16th 2015

Last Friday our lesson was spent in the studio, our task was to take images of our partner that would represent who they are as a person. These will be judged this Friday by our peers who will decide whether we captured an accurate representation of our partner or not.

James told me he was head boy in school so I decided to play on this by taking a school photo style portrait of him. These are a few of my favourite images from the day.

The last two images are definitely my favourite as there is no glare in his glasses on these. I will be using the last image as my 'final image' in Friday's lesson.

I also thought I'd include a few images of me taken by Sophie just because I think she did an amazing job and I love how they turned out.

Photography Task - October 14th 2015

On October 14th 2015 I experienced my first official 'News Day' at Southampton Solent University. I was given the story of 'The top 10 places to visit in Southampton' and was told to take various photos of said attractions. These are a selection of my favourite images of the day, you can find the full, official article here if you wish to read it.
